The Caviar Bowl — the centerpiece of the set

The caviar bowl is the piece that is reached for first: 84 mm diameter, 45 mm height, 150 ml capacity. A round, open-topped bowl with the niello ornamental band running continuously around its wall — rosettes and tendrils, black melted into the polished silver. The motif is part of the silver itself: not printed, not lacquered, not gilded — but embedded in the metal and flush with the silver surface after polishing.

The caviar spatula is 150 mm long, with a broad, flat blade for delicate serving. The niello ornamentation of the bowls is repeated on the handle: the same rosette, the same tendril pattern, the same signature. Niello — the craftsmanship that endures

Niello is a metal alloy of silver, copper, lead, and sulfur. The motif is hand-engraved into the silver — every line, every rosette, every tendril. Then the heated niello mass is filled into the engraved depressions. After cooling, the surface is ground until the black niello is flush with the polished silver. The result is a motif that is part of the metal: not an application, no color, no layer — the same silver, just with melted-in black.

What is visible after polishing remains the same image after ten years: the same contours, the same contrast, the same depth. Niello does not fade. It does not wear off. It cannot detach.
