Material and craftsmanship

The design principle of this spoon is intentionally minimalist: a single small motif at the end of the handle, with the rest being smooth, polished silver. The fish is applied directly to the silver as a flat enamel motif – not a raised figure, but a delicate image set into the surface. Its body glows in a warm yellow-gold, the fins in a rich blue, and a small red detail on the mouth adds a lively accent. This spoon is crafted by Russkije Samozvety, one of Russia’s oldest jewelry manufacturers based in St. Petersburg, founded in 1912. We at SilberKosmos carefully curate this piece from the manufacturer's range – it is produced there, not by us.

Special features

The fish is among the oldest and most versatile symbols in human history, and it almost always carries a positive meaning. Fish multiply in great numbers, which is why they represent wealth, abundance, and fertility in symbolic language – not just materially, but in the sense of a fulfilled, rich life. They also move effortlessly through the water, adapting to the current without losing their own path – a beautiful wish for a newborn child: to find their way in the flow of life and keep swimming forward. In a Christian context, the fish is one of the oldest symbols of faith; the Greek word Ichthys was used as an acronym for "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior" – a fish spoon for a christening thus subtly connects faith with an everyday object. In many Asian cultures, especially in China and Japan, the fish is also considered a distinct symbol of luck; for example, the koi carp stands for perseverance and success. The small enamel fish on this spoon carries all these wishes: luck, abundance, faith, and the strength to find one's own way.

Occasions and target groups

For a birth, the fish is a lucky charm for the start of life – a welcome greeting that wishes for abundance and joy, while the size of the spoon ensures a long period of use. For a christening, it is particularly fitting due to the Christian fish symbolism – a christening gift that subtly combines faith with a practical item without being intrusive, ideal for families seeking a religious reference without an explicitly ecclesiastical motif like a cross or angel. For a first birthday, the dessert size is ideal – the child grows into the spoon and can use it for years. For families with a connection to water, whether from a fishing village, coastal residents, seafaring tradition, or simply a love for the sea, the fish motif has a personal touch. For godparents and grandparents looking for a gift with symbolic depth – cheerful, but not superficial. The fish in gold, blue, and red is gender-neutral and equally suitable for boys and girls.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

The smooth, long handle offers a generous surface on the back for an individual engraving – names, birth dates, christening dates, or a short personal dedication have more space here than on smaller baby spoons. Contact us via our engraving service to discuss your request. With an engraving, the children's spoon becomes a personalized, one-of-a-kind piece that forever links the child's name with a symbol of luck. Upon request, we can also create an individual SilberVerse card in photo format, 15 x 10 cm in landscape orientation, matching the occasion with a personal quote or blessing. The SilberVerse card is free of charge, and each card is individually designed and rounds off your gift.

Care

Clean the spoon by hand with warm water and a mild dish soap. Avoid aggressive cleaning agents and silver dip baths in the area of the enamel motif. Dry the spoon after washing to prevent water spots. It is not dishwasher safe. If the silver tarnishes slightly, you can gently polish the smooth silver surfaces with a soft silver polishing cloth, avoiding the enamel motif.

Frequently asked questions

Why is this spoon larger than other children's spoons?
At 16.3 cm in length, it is designed in a dessert spoon size, significantly larger than typical baby spoons of approx. 13.5 cm. This allows the child to use it for many years, from toddler age to primary school age – it grows with them.

Can the spoon be engraved?
Yes. The smooth back of the long handle offers enough space for a name, date, or a short dedication – please contact us via our engraving service.

Does the fish have a religious meaning?
The fish is one of the oldest Christian symbols (Ichthys) and is therefore particularly suitable as a christening gift. At the same time, as a universal symbol of luck, it is a beautiful choice even without a religious context.
