Description
The entire evening is structured around this plate. Six indentations hold the symbolic foods, and because their arrangement is fixed, they are labeled — the plate itself dictates how it is set. Of the two formats in this line, this is the more compact one, suitable for a table of up to about eight people.
At a glance
- Seder plate (Ke'ara) made of 925 sterling silver
- Diameter approx. 38 cm — silver weight approx. 1.0 kg
- Six labeled indentations for the symbolic foods
- Chased rim with vines and grapes
- Zaramella Argenti, Padua — manufacture since 1948
The plate as the stage for the evening
The Seder evening is not just a meal with trimmings, but a procedure with set stages. Readings are taken from the Haggadah, the text that guides the narrative of the Exodus from Egypt. And at several points during this sequence, the plate is pointed to or a food item is taken from it.
The youngest person present asks the four questions about why this night is different from all others. The answers are linked to what lies on the plate: the bitter herbs, the fruit paste, the bone. Without these objects, the narrative would be abstract; with them, it becomes tangible.
This is why the Seder plate is not placed on the periphery, but in the center — where everyone can see it and the person reading can reach it.
The six indentations
Each indentation bears the name of its food in Hebrew letters. Sroa, the roasted bone for the Passover sacrifice. Beitza, the hard-boiled egg for the festival sacrifice. Maror and Chaseret, two bitter herbs for the bitterness of slavery and exile. Charosset, the paste made of apples, nuts, and wine, which resembles the clay for the bricks. And Karpas, a vegetable that is dipped in salt water.
The lettering is more than decoration: it makes the plate readable for everyone helping to set the table — including children doing it for the first time.
Why this format
At approx. 38 cm, this is the more compact of the two sizes in this line. On a table that also holds wine glasses for everyone, candles, the matzah under its cloth, and a Haggadah at every place, this makes a noticeable difference.
The six indentations are nevertheless far enough apart that the foods do not touch. For a household celebrating with six or eight people, this format is usually the wiser choice; the 42 cm model is worth it if large groups gather regularly.
Material and origin
For a piece intended to be passed down through generations, the difference compared to silver-plated goods is decisive: a plating wears off, solid silver does not. It can be polished again and again, and the ornament — which can only be chased in solid silver — remains intact. The plate is hallmarked.
Zaramella Argenti has been manufacturing in Padua since 1948. The ornaments of the Signature line are chased — driven into the silver by hand using punches.
As a gift
For a wedding, the Seder plate is the first piece a new household needs: goblets and plates can be added later, but the evening cannot be set without it.
Suitable as a joint gift from several donors, as a donation to a congregation, or for a housewarming. A piece that takes center stage once a year and is kept on display in between.
Engraving
The smooth rim between the decorative border and the outer edge can accommodate a dedication — a date, a name, the occasion. We can advise you in advance on placement and line spacing. Upon request, we will include a SilberVerse card, 15 × 10 cm, free of charge.
Care
Clean by hand with warm water, mild detergent, and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly — including the indentations and the lettering. No dishwasher: cleaning salts attack silver. Clean promptly after the Seder, especially after charosset and salt water. Tarnishing is reversible with a silver cloth; the darker depth in the letters may remain — that is what makes the writing legible. The Hebrew name for the Seder plate. It holds the six symbolic foods of the Seder evening.
Are the indentations labeled?
Yes, each one bears the name of its food in Hebrew letters.
Is it available in a larger size?
Yes — as a Seder plate with approx. 42 cm, identically crafted and labeled. Without labels, the same basic shape is available as a round platter with approx. 46 cm.
Is the plate kosher?

Is it delivered in a gift box?
Yes, in high-quality packaging from the manufacturer.
Where this plate belongs
The same plate is available one size up as a Seder plate with approx. 42 cm. Both versions are crafted and labeled identically — this size is the more practical one for a table of up to eight people.
Also belonging to the same model number is the round silver platter with approx. 46 cm: same basic shape, but smooth and without labels.
The Seder plate does not stand alone on the table. The evening also includes the Cup of Elijah, which is filled but not drunk from, and the platter for the breads. All pieces in the line can be found under Judaica in 925 silver.
This plate is not used for eleven months of the year. At approx. 38 cm, it still fits into a deep display cabinet shelf; many people place it on a plate stand and leave it out. The labeled indentations make it a piece that tells its story even when empty.
