Silver goblet 925 silver turtle dove niello 280 ml

The turtledove is one of humanity’s oldest symbols – a migratory bird that returns every spring and has long represented fidelity and new beginnings. On this beaker made of 925 sterling silver, it sits in fine niello relief on a branch, surrounded by blossoms and leaves, while an oval medallion with its own floral motif provides a moment of visual repose.

Material and craftsmanship

What appears as a deep black relief on the body of the beaker is not paint, but niello – an inlay technique in which motifs are first engraved into the silver and then filled with a black compound that is fused into the engraved lines, ground flush, and polished – like ink in silver. Thus, the motif lasts not for years, but for generations.

The SevChern studio in Veliky Ustyug, a northern Russian city known for its niello silversmiths since the 17th century, crafts each beaker in more than 15 steps. The turtledove sits on a branch among blossoms and leaves, beside an oval medallion with its own floral motif acting as a calm counterpoint. Rope pattern borders frame the composition at the top and bottom.

Usage and occasions

The turtledove returns every spring – a natural symbol of new beginnings and fidelity that makes this beaker a fitting companion for special life moments. For baptisms, the dove has always symbolized the Holy Spirit. For weddings, turtledoves embody the loving couple. For a nature lover’s birthday, the beaker is a gift that combines symbolism with material quality.

Those who prefer gilded accents will find the counterpart to this beaker in the Nectar line – the same shape, the same dimensions, but with warm gold instead of plain silver. Both versions can be combined on one table.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

The polished silver between the niello bands offers space for an engraving – a name, a date, or a short dedication, customizable upon review.

Upon request, we will include a personalized SilberVerse card in photo format (15 × 10 cm landscape) – individually designed, appropriate for the occasion, and free of charge.

Care

A soft cloth and lukewarm water are sufficient for cleaning. You should avoid silver immersion baths, as they can damage the niello inlay. Since the niello inlay is firmly bonded to the silver, the piece remains robust – and the contrasts deepen with time through polishing, rather than fading.

Frequently asked questions

Is this beaker suitable as a baptismal gift?

Yes. The dove has always stood for the Holy Spirit and peace – a baptismal gift with symbolic power that will last a lifetime.

What distinguishes this beaker from the gilded Nectar version?

Both share the same shape and dimensions (280 ml, diameter 72 mm × height 102 mm). The difference lies in the finish: this beaker is 925 silver without gilding, cooler and more classic in expression. The Nectar line features gilded accents.

How do I properly care for niello silver?

A soft cloth and lukewarm water are sufficient. Avoid silver immersion baths, as they can damage the niello inlay. Over time, the contrasts deepen with regular polishing.
