Some cups are just drinking vessels. This one from the Nektar line is more: 280 ml of polished 925 silver, on which peonies bloom and a small bee makes its way through the floral band – captured in black niello and framed by gold.

Material and workmanship

What you see on the body of the cup is neither print nor enamel, but niello – one of the most demanding techniques in silversmithing. First, the outlines of the blossoms, the veins of the leaves, and the flapping of the bee's wings are engraved into the silver. Then, a molten alloy of silver, copper, lead, and sulfur fills these indentations – it chemically bonds with the silver and then belongs to the cup, not just to its surface.

The SevChern workshop in Veliky Ustyug manufactures each cup in more than 15 steps. The gilded accents on the rim and base form a deliberate counterpoint to the dark niello: warm gold meets deep gray meets silver-white. The stamped hallmark confirms the 925 fineness.

The Nektar cup is a gift for many occasions: for the father who already has everything but no real silver cup. For the girlfriend who appreciates beauty. For the business partner for whom a bottle of wine would be too little. For the bridal couple furnishing a new home.

Care

A soft cloth and lukewarm water are sufficient. Avoid aggressive immersion baths and abrasive cleaners that could dull the gilded accents and the niello inlay. With regular care, the niello contrasts will deepen over time, not lighten.
