Material and Craftsmanship

The inner porcelain cup comes from Imperial Porcelain in St. Petersburg, one of Russia's most traditional porcelain manufacturers, identifiable by the manufacturer's stamp on the bottom. The holder is created at Russkiye Samotsvety through several manual steps: During electroforming (galvanoforming), silver is built up on a wax model in an electroplating bath, which is then removed – the result is a three-dimensional but pleasantly lightweight silver object. In the enamel filigree technique, finely twisted silver wires form the relief pattern; along these contours, the enamel color is applied by hand and painted with glaze. A final, wafer-thin gilding provides shine and additional surface protection. Because each surface is colored by hand, each piece differs in subtle nuances from the next.
