Material and craftsmanship

The upper third of the cup's body features a dense floral frieze: stylized blossoms and leaves unfolding against a black niello background. It is topped by a lambrequin border—a scalloped pattern that provides a crowning finish to the frieze, while a clear geometric line defines the bottom of the ornament. On the foot ring, the niello motif is repeated as a narrow geometric strip. Niello is neither paint nor lacquer, but a black inlay fused into engraved lines, ground flush, and polished—like ink in silver—ensuring it lasts a lifetime and gains contrast with every polish. Both inside and out, this cup is entirely silver, with no gold plating.
