Description
This teacup combines three elements to create an experience: white porcelain for the pure tea taste, 925 sterling silver for the form, and continuous gilding for warmth. The golden shimmer of the silver holder meets the deep black of the niello ornaments — an interplay rooted in Russian silver tradition. At 180 ml, this gilded teacup is generous enough for a leisurely afternoon tea.

Material and workmanship
The entire silver holder of this cup is gilded — the warm gold tone encloses the white porcelain body like a frame. The niello ornament on the gold band stands out in deep black, further enhancing the gilding. The effect of this triad of white, gold, and black is both clear and warm and can be clearly assigned to the Russian jewelry tradition. The gold is applied after shaping, the niello blackening is melted into the engraved depressions and permanently bonds with the metal underneath.
Use and occasions
Podstakannik refers to a holder for hot beverages, which has been common in Russia since the 18th century. The porcelain insert keeps the tea taste neutral and can be removed separately for cleaning, while the gilded silver holder takes on the design function. With 180 ml, this cup offers significantly more volume than smaller espresso variants, making it clearly intended for a full tea rather than a quick coffee. As a gift, a gilded silver cup with a porcelain insert and niello ornament is suitable for special occasions: Mother's Day, a milestone birthday, wedding anniversary, or silver wedding anniversary.
Engraving and SilberVerse Card
Upon request, engraving is possible on the gilded silver holder. Additionally, we can include a personalized SilberVerse card in photo format (15 × 10 cm) upon request — individually designed, suitable for the occasion, and currently free of charge.
Care
Hand wash the silver holder — no dishwasher and no silver dip, as this would damage the gilding. For the gilded surfaces, a soft, dry cloth is sufficient. Remove the porcelain insert separately and clean it normally. Store dry and protected from light.
Frequently asked questions
Is the gilding permanent?
The gilding on 925 sterling silver is a professional gold plating that is durable with careful care. No silver dip, no dishwasher — a soft cloth for daily cleaning is sufficient.
What is the advantage of the porcelain insert?
Porcelain absorbs the tea taste neutrally and does not release any metallic aroma. The insert can be removed and cleaned separately, which is more practical than a pure silver cup.
What is niello?
Niello is a blackening alloy that is melted into engraved silver or gold surfaces. The result is permanently black, matte, and firmly anchored in the metal — not a coating that can peel off.
