Material and workmanship

A regular diamond pattern structures the entire outer surface of the cup, framed by parallel lines at the top and bottom. The niello blackening fills the areas between the diamond lines – deep black, permanent, and chemically bonded with the silver, while the raised lattice points and edges remain highly polished. This causes the pattern to look different depending on the light. The cup is crafted by SevChern, a manufacture founded in 1933 that continues the niello technique using over 15 work steps per piece and was awarded the gold medal at the 1937 Paris World Exhibition.

The Floralis collection primarily features floral niello ornaments – blossoms, vines, leaves. This cup is the exception and that is precisely why it is interesting: the diamond lattice is geometric, while the material, technique, and origin remain the same.
