Description
The largest plate in the Eliyahu series, designed for the half-meter-tall goblet. Regardless of that, it is a fully functional serving platter: this surface has enough space for an entire course. Those who use it this way have a piece that is needed on grand evenings — and stands in the display cabinet on all others.
At a glance
- Plate for the Eliyahu goblet made of 925 sterling silver
- Dimensions approx. 37.5 × 37.5 cm — silver weight approx. 1.7 kg
- Very wide chased rim with a curved contour
- Large smooth center for the goblet to stand on
- Zaramella Argenti, Padua — manufacture since 1948
The size follows the goblet
A plate under a goblet has a simple task: it must accommodate the base and leave enough rim all around so that the whole thing acts as a unit. For a goblet 51 cm high with a wide base, this means a format that would be a serving platter in its own right.
Approx. 37.5 cm square is the result. Together with the goblet, an ensemble of over half a meter in height and nearly forty centimeters in footprint stands on the table — this is no longer a place setting, but a structure.
Those looking only for the plate should keep this in mind: under a 25-cm goblet, it looks oversized.
The rim
The rim — the surrounding border — is very wide in this format and features dense foliage. Its outer contour is curved, thus following the ornament instead of drawing a straight edge.
Over a rim length of more than one and a half meters, this is a significant amount of manual labor. The ornaments are chased: driven into the silver by hand with punches, strike by strike. No section repeats the previous one exactly — this is how the work differs from stamping.
The center remains smooth. That is where the goblet stands, and a chased surface underneath would cause it to wobble.
The fifth goblet
On Seder night, four goblets of wine are on the table, from which one drinks — for the four promises of redemption. A fifth is filled but not drunk: the Kos shel Eliyahu. It belongs to the prophet whose coming announces the future redemption.
With an ensemble of this size, the goblet can be seen from every seat at a long table — and with it, the plate that carries it.
Material and origin
A silver-plated piece could not be produced this way — the plating would tear under the punch. And it cannot be polished repeatedly because the layer would become thinner. Solid silver withstands both: the manual labor during creation and the care over generations. The plate is hallmarked.
Zaramella Argenti has been manufacturing in Padua since 1948; the Signature line is the richly chased signature of the house.
Also on its own
Unlike the smaller Eliyahu plates, this format also works without a goblet. At approx. 37.5 cm, it is a fully functional serving platter — for a cheese selection, a buffet, or an arrangement on a sideboard.
Those who purchase it for the Seder will therefore not only have it in use once a year.
Engraving
The smooth center is partially covered when the goblet is placed on it, but it remains visible all around — in this format, it is spacious enough for a multi-line dedication. For pieces going to communities, the occasion is recorded there. We discuss the design and line arrangement in advance. Upon request, we will include a SilberVerse card, 15 × 10 cm, free of charge.
Care
By hand with warm water, mild detergent, and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly — with this size, it is best to lay it flat. No dishwasher: cleaning salts attack silver, and moisture would remain in the recesses. Wipe away wine residues promptly. Tarnish is reversible with a silver cloth; the darker depth in the foliage may remain. More in the guide on the care of silver cutlery and silver tableware.

Scale for the largest piece
Approx. 37.5×37.5 cm — this plate is designed for the goblet approx. 51 cm, the largest piece in the line. Together they form the ensemble with which Zaramella completes this size category.
For smaller goblets, it is oversized; for those, the plate approx. 28×28 cm or the round one approx. 26 cm fit better.
Regardless of the goblet, this is a fully functional serving platter. On nearly forty centimeters of edge length, an entire course finds space. Those who use it this way get a piece that is needed on grand evenings — and stands in the display cabinet on all others.
