Material and Workmanship

The larger surface of the coffee pot gives the niello ornament more space. The floral band — blossoms, tendrils, leaves in botanical plant style — runs completely around the slender body. The narrow lid features its own ornamental band, and the geometric zig-zag border between the lid and body marks the transition. Every line of this pattern is hand-engraved into the silver, then filled with niello: melted in, fired, exposed. The result is a chemical-physical bond with the base silver, not a lacquer or coating that will peel off over time. Hand wash with lukewarm water and mild dish soap. No dishwasher, no silver dip. The niello band is permanently fused, normal cleaning will not harm it. Clean the lid separately and refresh the matted surface with a soft silver polishing cloth. Store in the gift case.
