Description
Thirteen flames on three levels — and a foot that is not round. This model series differs from the other candelabra in the line in precisely these two points.
At a glance
- Candelabra made of 925 sterling silver, thirteen nozzles
- Height approx. 65 cm
- Silver weight approx. 7.7 kg
- Arms in multiple levels, densely staggered
- Curved foot with four volute feet
- Zaramella Argenti, Padua — manufacturer since 1948
Why an odd number
Thirteen seems arbitrary but follows the construction. A candelabra has a central nozzle above the shaft; the others are distributed in pairs around it. Twelve arms plus the center make thirteen.
The same logic explains the other configurations of the series: where the number is even, there is no nozzle above the center, but the shaft ends in a finial. Both are available in this model family.
The curved foot
The candelabra in this series do not stand on a round foot, but on a quatrefoil curved foot — a square whose sides are drawn inwards and whose corners rest on small volutes.
There is a practical reason for this: a piece weighing over seven kilograms with a wide-reaching crown needs standing surface in the corners, not at the edge. Four support points are more secure than a continuous ring — on a tablecloth as well as on uneven wood.
Visually, the foot brings a straight line into a piece that otherwise consists only of curves. If you prefer the round version, you can find it in the twelve-flame version of the other series.
What else is available
At the same height of approx. 65 cm, Zaramella offers this series with fourteen flames. Further configurations with ten and eleven lights will be added as soon as reliable product images are available.
The smaller alternatives with a round foot: nine, eleven and twelve flames at approx. 66 cm.
For which table
Thirteen flames are a lot. On a table for six, it looks overwhelming; for twelve place settings or more, it is proportionate. The shape is made for the center of the room — it gives the same image from all sides, while a pair of individual candlesticks requires a specific viewing direction.
At approx. 65 cm, the light falls from above, leaving the line of sight across the table clear. For long tables, the staggering of several single-arm candlesticks is the better solution.
Without candles
A piece with 7.7 kg of silver is not stored away. It stands — on a sideboard, a console, in a display cabinet with a high compartment — and the staggered arm wreath creates a silhouette that stands as an independent object.
With thirteen arms on several levels, dust accumulates. A soft brush once a month saves thorough cleaning; anyone who neglects this will later have to deal with the spaces in between.
Candles and wax
Tapered candles of usual thickness. Remove wax after short cooling — without tools, because silver is softer than steel and will show every edge.
Engraving
The four straight panels of the curved foot offer an unusually good engraving surface: a dedication runs straight there, instead of adapting to a curve. For company anniversaries and honors, one side is usually used. We agree on the size and position in advance and include a SilberVerse card if desired.
Care
By hand with warm water, mild detergent, and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly. No dishwasher. For the staggered arms, use a narrow cloth; for the foot chasing, use a soft brush. Tarnish is reversible; the darker depth in the indentations remains. More in the guide on the care of silver cutlery and silver dinnerware.
Frequently asked questions
Why thirteen and not twelve?
Because there is a central nozzle above the shaft: twelve arms plus the center. For even-numbered configurations, the shaft ends in a finial instead.
Is this a Chanukiah?
No. Chanukiot have nine nozzles in a fixed arrangement — eight at one height, one raised. They are listed under Judaica made of 925 silver.
Is the series available with more flames?
Yes, with fourteen flames at the same height.
How heavy is it?
Approx. 7.7 kg of solid sterling silver — the heaviest piece in this selection.
Is it delivered in gift packaging?
Yes, in high-quality packaging from the manufacturer.
