Description
Fourteen Flames – the largest configuration we carry in this line. A piece not meant for a dining table, but for a room.
At a Glance
- Candelabra made of 925 sterling silver, fourteen sockets
- Height approx. 65 cm
- Arms on multiple levels, widely extending wreath
- Curved base with four volute feet
- Zaramella Argenti, Padua – Manufacturer since 1948
Fourteen Flames – What That Means
An even number in this design means: no central socket. The arms are distributed in pairs around the shaft, which terminates at the top in a finial instead of a candle socket. In the thirteen-flame version, it's the other way around – there, a socket is located above the center.
Visually, this makes more of a difference than the one candle might suggest: a candelabra without a central socket appears wider and calmer in silhouette, while one with a central socket looks sharper and more aspiring.
A Piece for Rooms, Not for Tables
Fourteen burning candles in an area of less than one meter – that's a quantity of light that can illuminate a medium-sized room. Historically, such pieces were not placed on the table, but on consoles and sideboards along the walls, where they illuminated the room, while lower candlesticks stood on the table.
Recreating this arrangement comes closest to the original effect: light from the sides and from above, little directly on the table. For the table itself, single-arm candlesticks in staggered arrangements are more suitable.
Within the Series
With the same height of approx. 65 cm, this model family also includes the thirteen-flame version weighing approx. 7.7 kg. We will include configurations with ten and eleven flames as soon as reliable product images are available.
The alternative with a round base is the other series of the line: nine, eleven or twelve flames at approx. 66 cm.
The Base
Curved quatrefoil, with four volute feet at the corners. A piece with a widely extending wreath needs support points on the outside, not in the middle – four feet provide more stable support than a continuous ring, especially on a tablecloth or uneven wood.
The four straight fields between the curves are also the best engraving surface of all candelabra in the line, because a dedication can run straight there.
Between Occasions
Such pieces are lit on a few evenings a year. The rest of the time, they stand – and are made for it. Against a bright wall, the staggered wreath creates a silhouette that one might not expect from a candelabra.
Practical note: With fourteen arms on multiple levels, dust collects in the spaces. A soft brush once a month keeps the piece clean without ever needing a thorough disassembly.
Candles and Wax
Taper candles of usual thickness. Wax residue can be removed after brief cooling; never with a blade, as silver is softer than steel.
Engraving
The straight fields of the base offer space for a dedication with occasion and year, as well as a company logo. The guide on engraving service describes how a logo becomes an engraving. Upon request, we can include a SilverVerse card.
Care
By hand with warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly. No dishwasher. Arms with a narrow cloth, foot chasing with a soft brush. In the recesses, the darker depth may remain – it gives the ornament its plasticity. More in the guide on caring for silver cutlery and silverware.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is there no candle above the center?
Because the number is even. With fourteen flames, the arms are distributed in pairs around the shaft, which terminates at the top in a finial. The thirteen-flame version, on the other hand, has a central socket.
Is this a Chanukiah?
No. Chanukiot have nine sockets – eight at one height, one elevated. They are listed under Judaica made of 925 silver.
How much silver is in it?
The manufacturer does not provide a reliable weight specification for this model. For comparison: The thirteen-flame version of the same series weighs approximately 7.7 kg. We will provide the exact value as soon as it is available.
Solid or silver-plated?
Solid 925 sterling silver with official Italian hallmark.
Does it come in gift packaging?
Yes, in high-quality packaging from the manufacturer.
