Children's cup made of 925 silver

(52 products)

A child's cup made of 925 sterling silver accompanies your child from their first independent sip until the day they place it in a display cabinet themselves. Silver is naturally antibacterial, taste-neutral, and indestructible — unlike plastic or coated cups, it contains no plasticizers, no BPA, and no microparticles. In our collection, you will find 51 cups from the ArgentA, ZARAMELLA, Russkiye Samotsvety, and SevChern manufacturers: classic handled cups, enamel motifs in colorful designs, niello children's cups with deep black ornaments, and gilded showpieces for special occasions.

For the special moment

Also suitable as a christening cup

In our curated christening cup collection, you'll find models that have proven particularly suitable as christening gifts — with angels, stars, and classic designs.

Why a silver cup for children?

Silver has been the preferred material for children's drinking vessels for centuries — for several reasons. The surface is naturally antibacterial, does not alter the taste or smell of beverages, and does not react with acids like apple juice or lemon soda. Unlike plastic cups, 925 sterling silver contains no plasticizers, no BPA, no microplastics, and no controversial coatings. The weight provides stability for small hands, and the smooth inner wall can be cleaned in seconds with a soft sponge. And unlike ceramic, a silver cup won't break if it falls from the high chair — at most, it will get a small dent that can be smoothed out with a visit to a silversmith.

Four manufacturers, four distinct styles

Our assortment represents the upper segment of the European silver market — each manufacturer has its own distinct style:

ArgentA — 25 cups with fired enamel motif work and 999 gold plating on rims, interiors, and accents. Teddy bear, prince, princess, stars, angels, heart — typical christening motifs in vibrant colors, multiple firings per cup, hand-applied gold plating.

ZARAMELLA — 12 classic handled cups in Italian manufacturing tradition, with smooth or chased surfaces. Timeless shapes without motifs, ideal for engraving.

SevChern — 10 unique niello pieces from Veliky Ustyug, Russian silversmith tradition since 1683. Each cup is hand-engraved, with black ornaments permanently melted into the silver surface (see below).

Russkiye Samotsvety — 3 cups with penguin, fish, and teddy bear motifs, classic Russian enamel work.

Three Craft Techniques: Niello, Enamel & Gold Plating

Niello is a traditional Russian blackening technique, rarely mastered in Europe today. The silversmith first hand-engraves the motif into the cup wall, then a sulfur-copper-silver alloy is melted into the depressions and polished. The result: deep black, velvety ornaments that never wear off — no print, no coating, but burnt-in metal. SevChern's niello children's cups feature grapevines, owls, kittens, Little Red Riding Hood, and angel motifs.

Enamel (more precisely: cloisonné and champlevé enamel) is a centuries-old process: colored powder made from ground glass is filled into engraved depressions and fired at over 800 degrees until it melts into intensely colored, scratch-resistant glass. Red, blue, white, green — the enamel motifs from ArgentA shine as brightly as on day one, even after decades. Each color area is fired individually, and each small cup undergoes multiple firings until the surface is perfectly smooth.

Gold plating refines many of our enamel cups with a genuine 999 gold layer on selected interiors, rims, or motif accents. The gold protects the silver surface from acids (e.g., from fruit juices), visually enhances the enamel colors, and gives the cup a warmer shine. Unlike printed gold accents, real gold plating lasts a lifetime — it does not rub off and remains unharmed when washed.

Motifs & Designs for Every Child

The motifs are as diverse as the children who receive them as gifts: Teddy Bear — the classic, featured multiple times in enamel and niello. Prince & Princess — crown design with red or blue enamel, gilded accents. Angel — the classic christening motif, finely engraved and often in niello. Stars — yellow-blue or yellow-red, colorful and child-friendly. Animals — penguin, fish, kitten, squirrel, Little Red Riding Hood. Classic shapes without motifs — for a plain engraved cup with name and date. Whether with one handle, two handles, or as a smooth cup without a handle: there's a suitable shape for every age and every dining habit.

Occasions to gift a child's cup

A silver cup is one of the few gifts that grows with the child. These are the most common occasions:

Christening — see our curated selection for christenings.
Birth — as the first piece of silver for the newborn, often engraved with the birth date. Matching gifts for birth.
Name day — the cup with the engraved first name as an annual tradition.
First Birthday — the symbolic "own drinking vessel" for the first anniversary.
School enrollment — as a motivational gift with an engraving of the start of school.
Godparent gift — see our godparent gifts collection.

Engraving — every cup becomes unique

Almost all cups in this collection can be engraved. Standard engravings include first name, birth date, or a short wish ("All the best for your Christening," "Happy 1st Birthday"). On niello cups, the engraving is placed on subtle rim areas to avoid disturbing the ornaments. The engraving is permanent — it does not disappear with the years but becomes more visible with the patina of the silver. Details on engraving options are available upon request before purchase.

For whom the silver cup is the right gift

Godparents and Grandparents — the classic gift role: "something that lasts." The silver cup with niello ornament or classic motif is the distinguished alternative to plush toys and vouchers.

Young Parents — the first conscious drinking vessel, safe and pollutant-free, often gifted in combination with a baby spoon or children's cutlery.

Collectors and Tradition — those who want to pass down a piece of silver to their child that will still be around in 30 years and develop a new patina with every wipe will find what they're looking for with our SevChern niello cups or ZARAMELLA handled cups.

Care & Storage

Silver should not go in the dishwasher or be cleaned with aggressive cleaners. It's best to rinse the cup after use with lukewarm water and a soft sponge — a small amount of dish soap is allowed, but abrasive sponges are not. If a slight patina (darker tone) appears after months, this is completely normal and not a quality defect. Silver reacts with atmospheric sulfur — a good silver polishing cloth for 15 seconds is enough to restore its shine. Storing it in the provided gift box protects the cup between uses and slows down the patina.

Frequently Asked Questions about Silver Children's Cups

At what age can a child drink from a silver cup?
As soon as your child can drink from an open vessel — typically around their first birthday. Before that, the cup can serve as a display keepsake or a holder for a baby spoon.

Can silver go in the dishwasher?
No. Dishwasher salt attacks the silver surface and dulls it. Lukewarm water by hand, a soft sponge, and drying — that's all it needs.

Does the cup tarnish with daily use?
Silver develops a slight patina over time — this is a natural oxidation process and not a defect. The original shine can be restored in seconds with a silver polishing cloth.

Is 925 silver safe for babies?
Yes. 925 sterling silver is nickel-free, hypoallergenic, and naturally antibacterial. It contains no plasticizers, no BPA, and no microplastic particles — unlike many plastic or coated cups.

Can I combine the cup with matching cutlery?
Yes. Many motifs are coordinated with our 925 silver children's cutlery and our baby spoon collection, creating a harmonious ensemble for the first table setting.

How long will an engraved name remain legible?
The engraving is machine-cut into the silver and is permanent — it does not disappear with washing or use. Over the decades, it will actually become more visible due to the patina.

Can I use a children's cup as an adult?
Absolutely. Many of our customers later use their inherited silver cup for espresso, as a pen holder on their desk, or as a small vase for wildflowers.
