Material and Workmanship

The bowl of this salad spoon displays the Astra ornament in all its delicacy: a matted silver field, into which a golden floral motif with tendrils and leaves is incorporated. The flower itself — a stylized aster — symbolizes grace, steadfastness, and silent affection in many cultures, a fitting symbol for a piece shared with others. The handle is spade-shaped and features a second, smaller floral medallion in Niello in the upper part — gilded on the outside, with the typical black-grey Niello filling on the inside, creating a contrast to the warm gold tone. The decoration follows the Astra pattern, one of the more well-known floral designs in Russian silversmithing. Each piece bears a hallmark as proof of 925 sterling silver.
