Description
The large square plate in a partially gold-plated version. When displayed upright, the gold is shown to better advantage than when lying flat: the light falls obliquely on the raised sections, making them stand out against the silver background. Even without a goblet, it is thus an object in its own right.
At a glance

Why gold on the corners
With a square plate, the corners are the points where the eye lingers. They define the shape and are the first thing one perceives when the plate is on a set table.
This is exactly where the gold is placed here — on the four acanthus volutes, the only parts that rise from the surface. The rule is the same as for the accompanying goblet: what stands out in relief is gold-plated. The flat areas remain silver.
The practical advantage becomes apparent at a long banquet table. From a few meters away, chased silver blurs into a bright surface; the golden corners remain recognizable and give the plate shape even from a distance.
The fifth goblet
On Seder night, four goblets of wine are placed on the table from which one drinks — for the four promises of liberation from the story of the Exodus. A fifth is filled but not drunk: the Kos shel Eliyahu.
It belongs to the prophet Elijah, whose arrival heralds the future redemption. Toward the end of the evening, the front door is opened to welcome him. The goblet remains filled — the plate underneath supports it and catches any spillover.
Rim and center
The rim features dense scrollwork, while the center remains smooth. This is not a matter of taste: the goblet stands on the center, and a chased surface underneath would cause it to wobble. Moreover, wine residue could not be removed from the recesses without leaving a trace.
At approx. 960 grams, the plate is heavy enough that a goblet weighing over a kilogram will not shift it.
Material and origin
A silver-plated piece could not be produced this way — the plating would tear under the punch. And it cannot be repolished indefinitely, as the layer would become thinner. Solid silver withstands both: the hand-crafting during creation and the care over generations. The plate carries the hallmark.
Zaramella Argenti has been manufacturing in Padua since 1948. The ornaments of the Signature line are chased — driven into the silver by hand with punches. The gilding is then applied in a second step.
As a set or individually
The plate is offered together with the partially gold-plated jumbo goblet as a coordinated set — in that case, the size, ornament, and gilding zone are matched from the start.
Individually, it is the perfect addition for those who already own the goblet. And it also fits under goblets made entirely of silver if you wish to create a conscious contrast.
Engraving
The smooth center is largely covered when the goblet is placed on it; the underside is suitable for a visible dedication. No engraving is done on the gold-plated volutes — this would damage the gold layer. We will coordinate this with you in advance. Upon request, we will include a SilberVerse card, 15 × 10 cm, free of charge.
Care
Clean by hand with warm water, mild detergent, and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly. Do not use a dishwasher. Wipe the gold-plated volutes dry only: gold is softer than silver. Wipe away wine residues promptly. The darker depth in the chased recesses may remain. More can be found in the guide on the care of silver cutlery and silver tableware.
Frequently asked questions
Which goblet does it match?
The partially gold-plated jumbo goblet approx. 33 cm. We offer both as a jumbo set partially gold-plated.
Does the gilding wear off?
Not with normal use. The volutes are raised and are only wiped dry during cleaning.
Can I use the plate for other purposes?
Yes. It can hold pastries, fruit, or a selection of cheeses.
Is it kosher?
We sell silver items and describe their use — we cannot provide religious legal advice. Questions regarding ritual suitability should be directed to your community.
Is it delivered in gift packaging?
Yes, in high-quality packaging from the manufactory.
The largest gold-plated version
This plate belongs to the partially gold-plated jumbo goblet; together they form the jumbo set partially gold-plated, the most elaborate set in the series.
Without gilding, the same shape is available as a plate approx. 28×28 cm. One size smaller, also gold-plated, is the plate approx. 24×24 cm.
With square plates, the appeal lies in the edge: the curved ornament runs toward a straight line and is cut off there. Those who prefer round shapes will find them in the same line among the silver trays.
When displayed upright, the partial gilding is shown to better advantage than when lying flat: the light falls obliquely on the raised gold sections, making them stand out against the silver background. In a display cabinet or on a sideboard, this plate is therefore an object in its own right, even when no goblet is standing on it.
