Cake server “Provence” – 925 silver with gold plating and hand engraving

Provence is the rose collection from the SevChern manufactory: On both sides of the handle is a silver panel featuring a niello rose, framed by lanceolate pointed leaves—a symmetrical, bouquet-like composition that clearly distinguishes itself from the round, asymmetrical blossoms of other collections. The serving blade is smoothly gold-plated on the front, while the reverse side bears a fine, gold-toned rose engraving. If you are looking for a table setting with a floral yet classically symmetrical aesthetic, Provence is the perfect answer.

Material and workmanship

The base is 925 sterling silver with warm 24-karat gold plating, complemented by the characteristic black of the niello on the handle. Unlike other floral collections from the manufactory that utilize a stylized round blossom, Provence features an open rose with layered petals at the center, accompanied by smaller roses, buds, and a border of lanceolate pointed leaves. The composition is intentionally symmetrical, giving it a more classic and tranquil appearance than asymmetrical floral motifs. The niello itself is a black inlay, melted down, leveled, and polished like ink in silver, with its contrasts deepening with every polish.

Use and occasions

The rose as a tabletop motif has always been associated with love, marriage, and family—without appearing kitschy, as the niello engraving is executed with graphic precision rather than in a naturalistic, sweet style. This makes the cake server an obvious choice for anniversaries, silver weddings, and wedding gifts. For those who already own a Provence dinner service, this serving piece complements the table with the item that standard cutlery sets usually lack.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

A personal engraving cannot be guaranteed for every piece, as the niello ornament runs along both sides of the handle and the gold-plated serving blade is not well-suited for additional engraving. For engraving requests, it is best to check with customer service before placing your order. Upon request, we include a complimentary SilberVerse card with every silver gift: 15 × 10 cm in landscape format, digitally designed.

Care

The dishwasher is off-limits for the cake server, as aggressive cleaning tablets attack both the gold plating and the niello. Hand washing with warm water and a mild detergent, followed by thorough drying, preserves the shine. For exposed silver areas, a soft silver polishing cloth helps with tarnish—never use it directly on the niello ornament.

Frequently asked questions

Is the cake server suitable for acidic toppings?

Yes. The gold-plated surface of the serving blade is more resistant to acid from toppings like berries or citrus than plain silver.

How does Provence differ from other floral collections of the manufactory?

Provence uses a rose and lanceolate pointed leaves in a symmetrical, bouquet-like framed composition. Other collections instead rely on a round, stylized blossom in an asymmetrical arrangement.

Is a personal engraving possible?

It is not guaranteed for every piece, as the ornament and gold plating leave little free space. It is best to check with customer service before ordering.
