Description

There is a point where a tray ceases to be a means of transport and begins to define the space. This format is made for entertaining – for the moment when twelve filled glasses are carried through a door and everyone looks. It is the largest of the three rectangular formats in this series.

At a glance

  • Large rectangular serving tray made of 925 sterling silver
  • Dimensions approx. 53 × 40 cm – silver weight approx. 1.7 kg
  • Rim fully chased by hand, acanthus scrolls with small flowers
  • Scalloped contoured edge, fine beading on the outer edge
  • Very large smooth mirror, unornamented
  • Zaramella Argenti, Padua – Manufacture since 1948

The format for a grand entrance

Approx. 53 × 40 cm is more than double the surface area of a medium tray. Practically speaking, this means: twelve champagne flutes, or a carafe with eight glasses, or the complete coffee table with pot, milk, sugar, six cups, and pastries – in one go.

With a net weight of approx. 1.7 kg, it lies steadily in the hands when carried and doesn't tip if the weight on it is unevenly distributed. The raised, scalloped rim catches anything that might otherwise go over the edge. For everyday use for two, it is too large – for that, the same model is available in approx. 39 × 28 and approx. 47 × 35 cm. This one is made for occasions that are remembered.

The rim – chased, not embossed

The flange, the circumferential rim, is chased by hand: punch by punch hammered into the silver. You can tell this because the tendrils cast real depth and no two sections are identical. Over this length – a good one and a half meters of rim – this is a significant amount of handiwork.

The motif is the acanthus, that jagged leaf from ancient architecture that came into table culture via the Italian Renaissance. Small flowers sit between the tendrils, a fine beaded edge runs along the outside, and a curved step leads to the mirror on the inside.

Material and origin

For a piece of this craftsmanship, the material determines its manufacturability: The chased flange would not be producible on a plated piece – it would tear during chasing. And a tray that is used only tolerates polishing if the silver is solid throughout. It is hallmarked by the manufacturer in Italy.

Zaramella Argenti has been manufacturing in Padua since 1948. Their signature is the richly chased line of the house; the wine carafe set of the line, which stands with ample space on this format, carries the same ornamental language.

What it is used for

The champagne reception for a wedding, the buffet for a christening, New Year's Eve, the company celebration. Anywhere where several glasses are moved simultaneously and the moment is photographed anyway.

Between occasions, it rarely stays in the cupboard: On the sideboard, it holds a standing arrangement of carafe, glasses, and candlesticks, thus becoming the focal point of the room. On the dining table, it serves as a base for table decorations.

Engraving

The mirror on this format is very large and completely unornamented. For a family crest, a company logo, or a multi-line dedication with a date, this is one of the best engraving surfaces that table silver offers. Engraving upon request; placement and scale are agreed upon in advance. Upon request, we can include a SilverVerse card – digitally designed, 15 × 10 cm, currently free of charge.

Occasions

As a wedding gift from several guests together, as a present for a company anniversary, a golden wedding anniversary, or as a thank you to someone who has carried something for years. A piece of this size is not consumed – it is passed on.

Care

By hand with warm water, mild detergent, and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly. No dishwasher: cleaning salts attack the surface, and moisture remains in the recesses. Tarnishing is a reaction with sulfur from the air, not damage – a silver cloth restores the shine. The darker depth in the tendrils can remain, it gives plasticity to the ornament. Frequently Asked Questions

How heavy is it in use?

The tray itself weighs approx. 1.7 kg. Fully loaded with twelve filled glasses, it comes to around four kilograms – easy to carry, but with both hands.

Is the model also available in a smaller size?

Yes – as approx. 47×35 cm and as approx. 39×28 cm. Both are identical in form, only their dimensions differ.

Solid or silver-plated?

Solid 925 sterling silver, no plating, with official Italian hallmark.

Is it delivered in gift packaging?

Yes, in high-quality packaging from the manufacturer.

The large format of the series

Approx. 53×40 cm – this is where this model series ends. A tray of this size is not an everyday item, but is made for the moment of serving: a complete round of glasses, a dessert for eight, the place setting for a reception.

Smaller sizes continue with approx. 47×35 cm and approx. 39×28 cm, both manufactured in the same shape.

Two practical tips that count with this format: When loaded, it becomes heavy – it needs to be carried with both hands and over short distances. And it needs a fixed place: A cupboard compartment of 55 cm width should be available, otherwise it will be permanently visible. Which doesn't have to be a disadvantage – on a sideboard, a chased silver tray of this size is a piece of furniture in itself.
