Signature — where silver meets indulgence
Description
A solid silver decanter raises a question you never ask about glass: Why at all? Glass shows the wine, silver conceals it. The answer lies not in the material, but in the occasion — this set is made for tables where the act of pouring itself is a process to be seen.
At a glance
- Two-piece set in 925 sterling silver: decanter and tray
- Decanter approx. 42 cm high, capacity approx. 1 liter
- Tray approx. 25 × 25 cm, square
- Total silver weight approx. 2.37 kg — decanter approx. 1,700 g, tray approx. 670 g
- Openwork vine pattern, hand-chased
- Zaramella Argenti, Padua — workshop since 1948
What makes this set special
The body of the decanter is bulbous and covered in openwork vine patterns — a technique in which parts of the wall are cut out by hand and finished. The neck is slender, the stopper sits firmly on its own fitting, and the handle ends at the top in a volute, that curled shell known from Ionic columns.
The tray takes up the same ornamental language: an irregularly scalloped edge with the same vine decoration. Both pieces were made for each other — this is evident from the fact that the width of the ornament on the decanter and the tray edge matches. This would not be the case with two randomly combined individual pieces.
Why silver and not glass
Silver is taste-neutral. For red wine, another point counts: the decanter stands on the table, not on the shelf, and a vessel of this size is seen.
For longer storage, the wine belongs back in the bottle. For serving at the table — for the evening it is intended for — the decanter is the right vessel.
Where this set stands
The same composition is available with a gilded acanthus frieze. There, the raised parts of the ornament are accented with fine gold; the shape is identical, the appearance different.
In the same line are jugs and vases with a related handwriting: the Salome silver jug as an open vessel without a lid, the openwork amphora with the same ajour work. Further vessels are featured in the category Silver Decanters and Jugs.
Wine at the set table
On Jewish occasions, wine takes center stage: Over a cup of wine, the Kiddush is spoken for the entrance to the Sabbath, and on the Passover Seder evening, four cups belong to the course of the evening. A decanter is not a ritual object — it is the vessel from which is poured, and as such belongs on the same table.
The associated ritual pieces of the line are in the category Judaica in 925 Silver: Kiddush cup, Seder plate and the Cup of Elijah, which is filled but not drunk.
As a gift
A set of this size is given for occasions where a single item would be too little: for a wedding, for a silver wedding anniversary, for a round company anniversary. It is at the same time a piece that is passed down — silver does not lose its value, and a decanter from which wine has been poured for decades carries its own story.
Engraving is possible after inspection; we advise in advance on placement and scope. Upon request, we include a SilberVerse card, 15 × 10 cm, free of charge.
Care
By hand with warm water, mild dish soap and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly. No dishwasher: cleaning salts attack silver. The openwork vine pattern is reached with a soft brush; in the recesses, the darker depth may remain, it makes the ornament look three-dimensional. Rinse quickly after use so that no wine dries out. Frequently asked questions
How much does the decanter hold?
About one liter — this corresponds to a bottle of wine with a reserve.
Is the set also available gilded?
Yes, as a set with a gilded acanthus frieze. Same dimensions, same shape; there, the raised ornament parts are accented with fine gold.
Does the wine take on a metallic taste?
No. 925 silver is taste-neutral. For longer storage, the wine nevertheless belongs back in the bottle — the decanter is intended for serving.
Can the set be engraved?
After inspection. Because the vine pattern largely fills the visible surfaces, the tray bottom and the decanter foot are primarily in question. For this, you add the flat rate for the engraving service directly to the cart; after that, we check the feasibility and scope and coordinate the wording with you; if the engraving is not possible, we refund it.
Is it delivered in gift packaging?
Yes, in high-quality packaging from the workshop; both pieces are individually padded.
