Material and craftsmanship

The base of the Astra Classic butter dish is completely high-gloss gold-plated — a continuous layer of gold inside and out that provides a warm, elegant presentation surface for the silver beneath. The lid, by contrast, is matte and features three symmetrically arranged flower groups: one central group at the front and two offset to the sides. Each group displays a hand-engraved flower with tendrils and leaves, filled with black niello paste — the contrast between the matte silver background and the fused dark line is what distinguishes niello from simple engraving. The central flower of each group also features a gold-plated accent area that breaks up the ornament. The gilding continues along the lower edge of the lid and the ring handle, visually connecting the lid and base.
