Material and Craftsmanship

The silver holder not only supports the crystal glass but also frames it. The clear glass allows the tea to be seen – its color, infusion, and intensity. A niello scene runs around the gilded holder: a rising sun with golden rays, in front of which a two-masted sailboat moves through stylized waves. Niello is a black silver alloy made of silver, copper, lead, and sulfur, which is melted into engraved depressions and permanently bonded with the silver – not a lacquer or print. The sailboat motif is a popular subject in Russian silver tradition and symbolizes travel, freedom, and new beginnings. The handle and foot of the holder are gold-plated, creating a warm contrast to the cool silver and dark niello. When drinking, the hand holds the metal holder, while the tea in the glass retains its temperature.

Clean the crystal glass with warm water and mild dish soap, but not in the dishwasher, as this would damage the gold plating of the holder. Care for the silver holder with a soft polishing cloth. With regular use, the gold plating further slows down the tarnishing of the silver.
