Material and Craftsmanship

The ball displays a bear face as a sculptural relief set against a finely textured, dotted background. The handle below is decorated for the most part with a floral vine ornament, yet just before the bottom end, two smooth, recessed fields on one side remain free of decoration. The Italian manufacturer Zaramella lists this model under the name "Ball with Bear" (Item 8403-OR).

Usage and Development

From birth, the ball serves as an object for grasping and observing, with the bear face and textured surface offering different tactile stimuli. As soon as children grasp deliberately, they move the ball on their own. The smooth engraving fields on the handle remain untouched by the ornament and only become a personalized space later on.
