Coffee cup set, hops design, 925 silver & porcelain – niello, gilding & hand engraving

A three-piece coffee cup set made of porcelain and 925 sterling silver with niello hand-engraving and gold plating — the Hopfen collection combines fine porcelain from the Imperial Porcelain Factory in St. Petersburg with silversmithing from Veliky Ustyug. The Hopfen design has been considered one of the well-known silver decors of Russian manufacturing tradition since 1969.

Material and workmanship

Each of the three pieces incorporates its own material: the coffee cup is made of fine porcelain from the Imperial Porcelain Factory in St. Petersburg and sits in a holder of 925 sterling silver with gold-plated accents. The saucer is made entirely of 925 sterling silver, with a deep niello relief in the Hopfen decor. The small coffee spoon features the same motif as a hand-engraved embellishment. Niello is a silver-copper-sulfur alloy that is melted into the engraved lines and then permanently bonded with the silver — no lacquer, no coating. The warm gold plating adds additional accents against the bright silver and deep black niello, so that all three pieces, despite different materials, appear as an ensemble.

Use and occasions

This set is suitable for morning coffee as well as for entertaining a guest. As a gift, it is perfect for weddings, anniversaries, or for anyone who already has a collection of silver tableware and wishes to add another piece. If desired, the set can later be combined with a matching pot, sugar bowl, or milk jug from the same Hopfen collection.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

The parts are differently suitable for engraving: The porcelain cup itself cannot be engraved. The silver holder of the cup can only be engraved to a limited extent, as niello and gold plating limit the available space — here we clarify the feasibility individually. The silver saucer is well suited for an engraving, for example with initials or a short date. The coffee spoon cannot be engraved due to the continuous niello and gold decoration. Care

Silver, niello and gilding are to be cleaned gently by hand only, preferably with a soft silver polishing cloth. Do not use a dishwasher, as it can damage the gilding and niello surface. The porcelain of the cup can be washed separately and gently by hand.

Can the cup be engraved?

No, the cup itself is made of porcelain and cannot be engraved. Engraving is possible on the silver saucer.

Can the silver holder of the cup be engraved?

Only to a limited extent: niello and gold plating limit the free space, so we check this individually before ordering.

Can the coffee spoon be engraved?

No, due to the continuous niello decoration and gold plating, no additional engraving is possible on the spoon.
