This coffee saucer made of 925 Sterling Silver features the hop motif of the collection of the same name as a niello hand engraving on a gilded background. Material and workmanship

The hop motif encircles the saucer as a continuous vine ornament, hand-engraved into the silver and filled with niello. Niello is a black metal alloy of silver, copper, lead, and sulfur, which is melted into the engraved lines at over 800 degrees Celsius, bonding insolubly with the silver. It is not an applied color, but a chemical-physical bond that does not wear off over the years but gains contrast when polished. The wide gilded rim frames this band, bringing together the triad of warm gold, deep niello black, and bright silver. The design of the Hopfen collection dates back to an original from 1969 and has been continued in this form by the SevChern manufactory in Veliky Ustyug, Northern Russia.

As a coffee saucer, this piece holds the matching cup from the Hopfen collection and turns afternoon coffee into a small occasion. Care

This saucer is for hand washing only: lukewarm water, mild detergent, no dishwasher. A silver dip should be avoided as it can damage the niello inlay. The gilding is best cared for with a soft cloth, without abrasive polishes. Between uses, it is best to store the saucer in the gift box, which protects against tarnishing.
