Material and craftsmanship

The floral ornamental band on the body and lid showcases the classic botanical repertoire of Russian silversmithing: blossoms, vines, leaves, densely arranged and symmetrical. First, the engraver meticulously hand-carves each line into the 925 silver with a graver. Then, niello — a dark alloy of silver, copper, lead, and sulfur — is fused into the recesses, forming a chemical-physical bond with the underlying silver. No lacquer, no coating: what appears black is embedded within the metal itself. A piece of this kind undergoes around fifteen working steps before the spout, handle, and lid are assembled — from the initial sketch to engraving and fusion, to the final polish. This teapot is 100% food-safe and will not dull over time, but rather grow more beautiful: each polish deepens the contrast between the satin silver and the deep black ornamentation.

Care

Hand wash with lukewarm water and mild dish soap is sufficient. No dishwasher, no silver dip — both would damage the satin finish. The niello band is permanently fused and tolerates normal cleaning without issue. It's best to rinse the lid separately. The matte surface can be refreshed occasionally with a soft silver polishing cloth, and the pot is well protected in its gift box between uses.
