Description
Some teapots are vessels. This one is a statement. The Verbena, crafted from 925 sterling silver, is elegantly slender, subtly rounded, with a double-curved S-handle that guides the hand like a good companion. The domed lid features a drop finial, the spout is slim and precise, and a profiled round base gives the whole piece stability and poise. 700 ml capacity — enough for several cups, enough for a true ritual.
Across the body of the pot, a diagonally flowing, free acanthus scroll motif unfolds — not a stiff, encircling border, but an organic scrollwork with large leaf flourishes in the Art Nouveau style. The botanical nature of the motif corresponds with the line's name: Verbena, named after the verbena tea plant. At the neck and base, narrow, almost meander-like geometric niello borders frame the free scrollwork — a calm structural counterpoint to the curves of the main motif.

Material and Workmanship
Niello is not enamel and not lacquer — it is a metal alloy of silver, copper, lead, and sulfur, which is melted into the previously hand-engraved depressions at high temperatures and chemically-physically bonds with the silver underneath. A piece like this goes through up to fifteen steps: drawing, engraving, firing, grinding, polishing. With each subsequent polish, the contrasts deepen — the pot becomes more beautiful over the years, not duller. This bonding technique is one of the oldest finishing techniques in silversmithing and is 100% food-safe.
Usage and Occasions
Tea from silver is no coincidence — in Russian table culture, the serving pot has its own role: it stands in the center of the table, is refilled, and is a focal point for conversation. 700 ml means four to five cups, a long afternoon, a true reception. The Verbena is a complete piece in itself — it fits equally well on a set dining table or in a collection. As a wedding gift for people who already have everything. As an anniversary gift for a couple who lives table culture. As an heirloom, conceived as such from the beginning — a purchase not intended for a year, but for decades.

Care
Not dishwasher safe — this applies to all high-quality silver pieces with niello, as the chemicals in machine detergent can damage the surface long-term. The Verbena is cleaned by hand with warm water and mild dish soap and gently polished dry. Regular use keeps the silver shiny on its own, and the niello contrasts deepen with each polish.
Frequently Asked Questions
What distinguishes niello from a normal engraving or from enamel?
With an engraving, the material remains bright and open after removal. With enamel, a glass mass is applied — a layer on top. Niello is something else entirely: a silver alloy that is melted directly into the surface and firmly bonds with the silver. The result is permanent and does not flake off.
Is the pot dishwasher safe?
No. Hand wash with warm water and mild dish soap, then polish dry with a soft cloth — this best preserves both the silver and the niello contrasts.
Is the Verbena suitable as a wedding or anniversary gift?
Very much so. It is one of the most impressive pieces for people who already have everything and understand table culture as a way of life — as a wedding gift or as an anniversary gift after 25 or 40 years together. Individual engraving is possible upon request, making the piece truly unique.
