Description

Between the ornamental zones, polished surfaces remain – and these are the real focus here. They reflect the candlelight as a surface, while densely chased sections break it into many small reflections. Among the single-flame candlesticks in the line, this is the most understated.

At a Glance

  • Single-flame candlestick made of 925 sterling silver
  • Height approx. 39.5 cm — silver weight approx. 0.7 kg
  • Chased nozzle, chased shaft base, and foot
  • Polished zones in between — ornament with pauses
  • Domed foot on four scroll feet
  • Zaramella Argenti, Padua — Manufacture since 1948

How a Candlestick is Constructed

Three parts define the shape. The nozzle at the top holds the candle and usually has a drip tray underneath. The shaft connects it to the foot, which supports and weights the whole.

In this model, the distribution is classic: the nozzle and foot bear the ornament, while the shaft largely remains smooth. This has both an aesthetic and a practical reason. Aesthetically, the calm shaft guides the eye upwards to the flame; practically, a candlestick is held by the shaft, and a smooth surface feels better in the hand than a sharply chased relief.

The ornaments are hand-chased — driven into the silver with punches, stroke by stroke. On the foot, where the surface is largest, is the densest pattern; it rests on four small curled scroll feet that lift it off the table.

Why Silver and Candlight Belong Together

Among all utility metals, silver has the highest reflectivity for visible light — over 95 percent. Before electrification, this was not a luxury, but a function: a silver candlestick reflected the light of a single candle back into the room, making the evening brighter.

This effect has remained. The polished zones of this candlestick reflect the flame as a calm surface, while the chased ones break it into many small reflections. Anyone who lights both candles of a pair will see the difference more clearly than in daylight.

Material and Origin

From the solid silver, two things immediately apparent on a candlestick follow: Chasing only succeeds in solid silver because a coating would tear under the punch. And silver reflects over 95 percent of visible light — more than any other utility metal. Before electrification, this was precisely why candlesticks were made of silver. The Italian hallmark indicates the material.

Zaramella Argenti has been manufacturing in Padua since 1948. The Signature line is the richly chased hallmark of the house — this candlestick is its most understated representative among the single-flame models.

Single or as a Pair

Candlesticks traditionally function in pairs: to the left and right of a floral arrangement, at the ends of a table, flanking on a sideboard. Symmetry is half the effect.

Individually, it works where it doesn't need to be answered — on a side table, in a niche, next to a picture. At approx. 39.5 cm, it is tall enough to rise above a set table without obstructing the view of the person opposite: the light comes from above, the face remains clear.

Engraving

The polished zones on the shaft and the smooth edge of the foot can accommodate an engraving — a monogram, a date, two initials for a pair. Because the surfaces are curved, we discuss the size and position in advance. Upon request, we can include a SilberVerse card, 15 × 10 cm, currently free of charge.

Occasions

For a wedding — a pair of candlesticks is among the gifts that accompany a marriage for decades and reappear on the table at every celebration. For a silver wedding anniversary, a housewarming, a milestone birthday. As a present where two givers can each contribute a candlestick.

Care

Wash by hand with warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly. No dishwasher. Wax residues are best removed by briefly chilling the candlestick — then the wax can be lifted off without scratching. Never use a knife: silver is softer than steel. Tarnishing is a normal reaction with sulfur from the air and is reversible with a silver polishing cloth; the darker depth in the chased depressions can remain. Frequently Asked Questions

Which candles fit?

Classic stick candles with a 22 mm diameter, the standard commercial size. For slightly undersized candles, a drop of wax in the nozzle helps.

Does the candlestick get hot?

Silver conducts heat well, the nozzle will become noticeably warm. The shaft remains lukewarm. Allow to cool briefly before touching.

Is it available as a pair?

The manufacturer makes them individually — for a pair, the same item is ordered twice. The other candlesticks in the line are the Poppy candlestick, the Mini, and the Maxi.

Solid or silver-plated?

Solid 925 sterling silver with approx. 0.7 kg material weight, no plating, with official Italian hallmark.

Is it delivered in gift packaging?

Yes, in high-quality manufacturer packaging.

The Four Candlesticks in the Line

Signature offers four candlesticks that differ in height and motif:

  • this one, approx. 39.5 cm — the classic version with a calm shaft
  • the candlestick with poppy motif, approx. 39.5 cm — same model base, different decor
  • the Mini, approx. 40 cm — slender build
  • the Maxi, approx. 47 cm — with flared leaves

Candlesticks are traditionally purchased in pairs. On Shabbat, two candles are lit — for Zachor and Shamor, the remembrance and observance of the day of rest. If you want a pair, order the same item twice; the manufacturer makes them individually.

Other candlesticks outside this line can be found in the category 925 Silver Candlesticks.
