Description

The largest single-flame candlestick in the line — and the only one whose acanthus leaves stand freely from the shaft. You can feel them under your fingers when you lift it. Made for tables where height contributes to the effect: long tables, high rooms, festive occasions.

At a Glance

  • Single-flame candlestick made of 925 sterling silver
  • Height approx. 47 cm — silver weight approx. 1.15 kg
  • Sculptural acanthus leaves standing out at the base of the shaft
  • Shaft with rising leaf band, fully chased
  • Broadly flared base on three scroll feet
  • "Maxi Signature" model
  • Zaramella Argenti, Padua — Manufactory since 1948

Relief Instead of Flatness

The difference from the smaller candlesticks in the line is not just a question of size. Here, the ornament stands out from the body: at the transition from the shaft to the base, acanthus leaves detach from the wall and protrude freely into space.

This requires a different working method. Chasing alone is not enough — the leaves are worked separately and attached, or hammered out of a thicker blank and post-processed. Both are more elaborate than chasing a pattern into a closed surface and explain the difference in price.

The effect is most evident in candlelight: protruding leaves cast real shadows on the shaft behind them. The piece gains depth that a flat relief does not create.

The Height

Approx. 47 cm is a lot for a table candlestick. On a set table, the flame will then be clearly above the eye level of those seated — the light falls from above, like a small chandelier, and no one looks into the flame.

On a sideboard or console, it unfolds its effect as a solitaire. Together with the approx. 40 cm high model of the line, a staggering in two heights results, as is common on long tables: the tall ones in the middle, the lower ones towards the ends.

Material and Origin

Two things that are immediately apparent in a candlestick made of solid silver are: Chasing is only possible in solid silver, because a plating would tear under the hallmark. And silver reflects over 95 percent of visible light — more than any other utility metal. Before electrification, this was precisely why candlesticks were made of silver. The Italian hallmark indicates the material.

Zaramella Argenti has been manufacturing in Padua since 1948. The Signature line is the richly chased hallmark of the house — this candlestick is its most pronounced single-flame representative.

Single or as a Pair

As a pair at the ends of a long table or flanking on a sideboard. Single as a solitaire in a niche or next to a picture — at this size, it needs no counterpart to make an impression.

Engraving

The shaft is continuously worked. The underside of the base remains as an engraving surface — for a pair, the usual place for initials or a date. We will advise you on request. Upon request, we will include a SilberVerse card, 15 × 10 cm, currently free of charge.

Occasions

For a golden wedding anniversary, a major anniversary, as an honorific gift. A piece with sculptural, protruding ornament is craftsmanship in the truest sense — it is suitable where the effort itself is the message. As a pair, given by multiple givers.

Care

By hand with warm water, mild dish soap and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly. Do not use a dishwasher. Work carefully with the protruding leaves: They are stable, but not designed for pulling — grasp the candlestick by the shaft, not the ornament. Wax residue dissolves best after short chilling; never use a knife. A soft brush is suitable for the indentations. Tarnishing is normal and reversible with a silver cloth; the darker depth in the spaces between the leaves can remain — it makes the relief sculptural. Frequently Asked Questions

Which candles fit?

Classic stick candles with a 22 mm diameter. At this candlestick height, long candles look particularly harmonious.

Is it stable?

Yes. The widely flared base and approx. 1.15 kg of self-weight keep it stable.

Are the protruding leaves delicate?

They are firmly connected to the body and unproblematic in normal use. When carrying and cleaning, grasp the candlestick by the shaft, not the ornament.

Solid or silver-plated?

Solid 925 sterling silver with approx. 1.15 kg material weight, no plating, with official Italian hallmark.

Which smaller candlesticks does the line offer?

The Mini at approx. 40 cm as well as the classic and the poppy candlestick, each at approx. 39.5 cm.

Does it come in gift packaging?

Yes, in high-quality manufacturer's packaging.

The Largest Candlestick in the Line

Approx. 47 cm, with splayed leaves on the shaft — of the four candlesticks in the line, this is the most elaborate. It is made for tables where height contributes to the effect: long tables, high rooms, festive occasions.

The smaller models are the Mini at approx. 40 cm as well as the classic and the poppy candlestick, each at approx. 39.5 cm.

Two tips for use: The protruding leaves are solidly hammered and withstand normal handling, but should not be used as a handle when drying. And the higher a candlestick, the more noticeable any unevenness of the tabletop — it stands more steadily on a set table with a cloth than on bare wood.
