Description

The difference from a tray lies in the rim: A tray has a raised rim for carrying, a platter is flat and made for presentation. This one comes from the same model series as the Seder plates — same basic shape, just without their depressions and inscriptions.

At a Glance

  • Large round serving platter made of 925 sterling silver
  • Outer diameter approx. 46 cm, inner mirror approx. 38 cm
  • Silver weight approx. 1.55 kg
  • Very wide rim, entirely hand-chased: foliage with blossoms
  • Two continuous beaded edges — outer and at the transition to the mirror
  • Smooth, ornament-free mirror
  • Zaramella Argenti, Padua — Manufactory since 1948

Wide Rim, Calm Center

The ratio of the rim to the mirror determines the character of a round silver piece. Here, the rim is deliberately wide: eight centimeters of ornament all around, a continuous band of foliage and blossoms without interruption. The mirror, on the other hand, measures approx. 38 cm and remains completely smooth.

The effect is twofold. What lies in the center — a roast, a cake, an arrangement — stands on a calm base and is not overshadowed by the pattern. And the platter appears larger than it is because the eye is guided across the wide rim to the edge.

The work is hand-chased: hammered into the silver with punches. On a rim length of well over a meter and a half, this means many thousands of blows. This is recognizable by the fact that the vine is alive — no section repeats the previous one exactly.

Material and Origin

A silver-plated piece could not be produced in this way — the plating would tear under the punch. And it cannot be re-polished arbitrarily often, because the layer becomes thinner. Solid silver tolerates both: the handcraft during creation and the care over generations. The Italian hallmark of the manufactory confirms this.

Zaramella Argenti has been working in Padua since 1948. Their signature is the richly chased line of the house.

What Fits on It

Approx. 38 cm of usable mirror — that's the area for an entire roast, a cake for twelve, a cheese board, or a whole fish. For buffets, the round shape is advantageous: you can approach it from all sides, and the platter does not need to be aligned.

It also works as a charger plate under a porcelain place setting — then the plate rests in the mirror, and the chased rim frames it like a passe-partout. For a festive table, this is one of the most effective and at the same time simplest ways to use silver.

Engraving

With a diameter of approx. 38 cm, the mirror offers a very large, flat surface. A coat of arms, a monogram, or a dedication with a date can be centered there without competing with the rim. Engraving on request; we will coordinate the scale and position in advance — on this surface, the size of the engraving determines the effect. Upon request, we will include a SilberVerse card, 15 × 10 cm, currently free of charge.

Occasions

For a wedding as a piece that returns to the table at every celebration. For a silver wedding anniversary, a significant birthday, a company anniversary. A large platter is a gift that several givers can share — and one that is passed down through generations.

Care

Hand wash with warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly. No dishwasher: cleaning salts attack silver, and moisture would remain in the chased depressions. Clean promptly after serving acidic foods. Tarnishing is normal and reversible with a silver cloth; in the depressions of the rim, the darker depth can remain, it makes the ornament three-dimensional. More in the guide on the care of silver cutlery and silverware.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I place hot food directly on it?

Silver conducts heat very well — the platter will absorb the temperature and release it quickly. For a hot roast, it is advisable to warm the platter so that the food does not cool down. Use the rim when handling.

How large is the usable area really?

The smooth mirror measures approx. 38 cm in diameter, with the wide rim added to the outside.

Solid or silver-plated?

Solid 925 sterling silver with approx. 1.55 kg material weight, no plating, with official Italian hallmark.

How does it differ from a tray?

In the rim: Trays have a raised rim for carrying, platters are flat and intended for presentation. Round trays of the same line are available in the same diameter.

Does it come in gift packaging?

Yes, in high-quality packaging from the manufactory.

Platter or Tray?

The difference lies in the rim. A tray has a raised rim that ensures safe carrying; a platter is flat and made for presentation. This one measures approx. 46 cm — the same size as the round trays in the line, but with a completely different purpose.

The manufacturer lists it under the same basic number as the Seder plates: same basic shape, just without the inscription of the six symbolic foods. If you are looking for a neutral serving platter in this design language, this is the right place.

It gets larger with the round platter at approx. 54.5 cm, and the cross-shaped platter offers a more distinctive form.
