What does Psalm 91 mean?

Psalm 91 is one of the best-known prayers in the Bible and is considered a psalm of protection. In the Luther Bible, it begins with "He who sits under the shadow of the Almighty and abides under the shelter of the Most High". At the end is God's promise to hear the petitioner in their distress.

Why do Orthodox families say Psalm 90 instead? The Orthodox Church counts the psalms according to the Greek Bible, where the same text bears the number 90. In Russian piety, it is customary to give the psalm to people who are going far away, in the past, for example, as a narrow belt with printed text. As a pendant, no one sees it under the shirt, and yet it is always with them.
