This cutlery case brings together 24 pieces in 925 sterling silver for six people: tablespoons, forks, knives and teaspoons, gold-plated and with scenes from Pushkin’s tales in niello. Tales on every piece: what you see on the 24 pieces

At the front of each handle stands a cartouche: lyre, laurel, Pushkin’s name and the tale’s title, all in Cyrillic script. The lyre stands for poetry, the laurel for fame. On the back the story begins: tale scenes on forks, spoon backs and knife handles.

Spoons and forks are gold-plated on the bowls and tines, and the handles carry the engraving. On the knives a stainless steel blade sits in a silver handle.

Six stories, also individually: what is in the series

The Pushkin Series tells six stories, each also available as a cutlery set for one person:

• Fisherman and Fish: A fisherman sets a fish free, and his wife wants more and more in return. The Brothers Grimm tell something similar in “The Fisherman and His Wife”.
• The Tsar’s Daughter: Mirror, apple and seven helpers, a relative of Snow White.
• Tsar Saltan: A barrel in the sea, a swan princess, plus Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera with the “Flight of the Bumblebee”.
• Golden Cockerel: A cockerel on the tower warns the tsar; Rimsky-Korsakov made his last opera of it.
• Ruslan and Ludmila, also spelled “Ludmilla”: a verse epic about a knight who searches for his abducted bride, set to music by Glinka.
• The Priest and Balda: a satire in which a resourceful workman outwits a miserly priest.

Veliky Ustyug, niello and a medal from Paris

Niello art in Veliky Ustyug has been documented since 1683. SevChern engraves the scenes into the silver, dark mass fills the lines and is fired in. Finally it is polished; for gold-plated pieces the gilding together with polishing belongs to the finish.

In 1937 the World’s Fair in Paris honoured the Artel Severnaya Chern of the time with a gold medal, for tableware with motifs from Pushkin’s tales (more in the history of the manufactory). This case was newly made in the “Culture of the Home” line and is not a reproduction of those pieces.

Silver cutlery in the dishwasher: what happens then?

Can you choose single place settings instead of the case?
Yes, every tale is available as a four-piece cutlery set, for example “Ruslan and Ludmila” or “The Priest and Balda”. The matching pairs of cups are listed in the tales collection.

Can a dedication be added?
