Material and workmanship

The sugar bowl carries the character of the entire line: its high trumpet foot elevates the curved bowl, and the curved dome lid is topped with a slender drop finial. The niello decor features a central rhomboid medallion with a dot grid, framed by acanthus volutes that extend over the body — the motif is repeated as a palmette ornament on the lid. At the rim of the bowl are six integrated openings that serve as holders for the six teaspoons — not intended as an afterthought accessory, but as an architectural element of the form itself. Niello is not a paint or varnish, but a dark metal alloy that is embedded in engraved depressions and chemically and physically bonded to the silver. The result becomes more beautiful over time: the more often you polish the silver, the deeper the contrasts become between the matte black of the inlay and the warm luster of the 925 sterling silver.
